Dentures and Partial Dentures

Today's technology allows us to fully customize dentures to fit your mouth precisely and to exactly match the color of your existing teeth. At Stones Family Dental, in Salem Oregon, we make sure your dentures have a good fit to ensure chewing comfort and added strength.

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin which at times incorporate porcelain or metal for additional structural support. There are two main types of dentures. Both Complete Dentures and Partial Dentures are finely crafted, custom-fitted. If you properly maintain

your dentures they will appear natural and provide a perfect smile. Additionally, dentures help strengthen muscles controlling your expressions that require the support of your teeth, rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing teeth and aid with chewing.

Full Dentures
Full dentures are an excellent option for people who have lost all their teeth. Precisely designed and molded to fit one's mouth, full dentures slide over the gums and are held in place with suction and/or your own cheek and mouth muscles. They allow for proper chewing and keep the mouth and its surrounding facial features in proper alignment.

Partial Dentures
Partial dentures fill gaps left by missing teeth. Usually made of resin, metal, or both, partial dentures are held in place with metal clasps or precision devices (tooth-colored, discreet clasps) that are attached to natural teeth. When properly fitted and designed, partial dentures are strong, comfortable, and virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. Partial dentures can help with chewing, improve speech, and prevent sagging of the cheeks and lips.

What if my dentures don’t stay in very well?
When teeth are lost, the bone in our jaws slowly shrinks over time. For some, this process is rapid and may mean their dentures feel loose or move when one chews or speaks. To help support the denture, implants can be used to anchor the denture in the mouth and prevents or minimizes movement. For many, this is s life changing procedure that virtually eliminates any previous problems they may have had with their dentures.
